Jigawa approves N1.1 Billion food subsidy to workers

Jigawa state executive council has approved the sum of One Billion One Hundred Twenty-Five Million Naira (N1,125,000,000) for emergency procurement of additional food items including 12,000 Bags of Rice and 15,000 Cartons of Spaghetti for onward sale to civil servants at a subsidized price in the state..

The state Commissioner of information youth sports and culture Hon Sagir Musa revealed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state executive council meeting.

He said, the procurement of the food items is part of the state government plan to established Corporative shops in all the 27 local government area of the state for selling food items and other essential commodities to the civil servants at subsidized rate.

Hon Sagiru explained that, a modalities and framework was already develop for the establishment and management of the Corporative Shops where civil servants can collect food items on credit and pay it back instrumentally.

According to him the establishment of the Corporative shops is part of the efforts of Governor Malam Umar Namadi to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal on civil servants and also enhance their welfare for better public service delivery.

The commissioner however revealed that , the Council has approved the sum of Two Billion Eight Hundred and Thirty-Five Million, Three Hundred and Twenty-One Million, Three Hundred Naira (2,835,321,300K) only for the special Ramadan Iftar Feeding programme across the State.

“The Council has during its deliberation approved a total of 609 feeding centers statewide with minimum of 2 centers at each of the 287 political wards fin the state, and also one centers at each of the 10 Tertiary Institutions in the State”.

‘The Council has agreed to provide 3 different meals including (Jollop Rice, Kosai and Kunu) to minimum of 300 people per center with total 182,700 people per , the free feeding will take place throughout the Ramadan period, which at the end we targeted to feed 3,836,700 people” ” the Commissioner declared.
