The Jigawa State House of Assembly has established an ad-hoc committee to scrutinize the state’s electoral and local government laws. This decision followed a motion by Hon.
Abubakar Kallo, representing Hadejia constituency, in response to a report by the House Committee on Local Government regarding a communiqué from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).
The communiqué reminded lawmakers that the tenure of current local government chairmen and councilors will soon expire.
The House Committee on Local Government, chaired by Hon. Aminu Zakari, recommended that concerns raised by IPAC should not be ignored.
The House Speaker, Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, announced the adoption of the report and constituted the ad-hoc committee, headed by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Sani Isyaku Abubakar.

In a separate development, the House adopted a motion calling for an overhaul of the Jigawa State Fire Service to meet the needs of the state’s people.
The motion, sponsored by Hon. Abubakar Jallo from Hadejia constituency, was adopted following a report by the House Committee on SEMA, chaired by Hon. Muhammad Abubakar Sadiq.
The report highlighted the dilapidated state of the fire service’s buildings and equipment, prompting the need for urgent intervention.
The House Speaker thanked the committee for their work and promised to forward their recommendations to the Executive.
