The Jigawa State Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Accountability Forum (JiMAF) has commended the State Government for its commitment to improving healthcare services in the state. 

In a statement released on Thursday, April 25, 2024, JiMAF applauded the government for passing the revised Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency bill into law, which will strengthen the Primary Health Care Under One Roof (PHCUOR) and promote equitable distribution of human resources for health.

Additionally, JiMAF praised the government for approving one billion naira for the enrollment of 149,240 poor and less privileged persons across the 287 wards, a move that will enhance the state’s commitment to achieving universal health coverage.

While commending the government for allocating 12.1% of its 2024 annual budget to the health sector, JiMAF urged the government to improve budget releases across the sector, as the Quarter 1 budget performance analysis revealed an abysmal budget performance across MDAs in the health sector.

JiMAF also commended development partners for supporting the state in improving health indices and called on other stakeholders to support monitoring and ensuring judicious utilization of funds when released.

The statement was made by the secretary JIMAF Isah Mustapha shortly after a two-day review meeting organized by JiMAF, supported by Lafiya UK Program. 

JiMAF reiterated its commitment to collaborating with the government and other partners towards the overall development of the state.
