Dr. Shehu Sambo, a health professional and Director of Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHCDA) in Jigawa State Ministry of Health, has warned the public in Jigawa and northern Nigeria to avoid direct sunlight due to the severe heat wave currently affecting the region.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Dr. Sambo cautioned that the extreme heat poses significant health risks, including heat stroke, severe dehydration, kidney problems, and an increased susceptibility to infections like meningitis.

To mitigate these risks, Dr. Sambo advised people to:

– Drink plenty of water and fluids

– Sleep in well-ventilated rooms

– Avoid working or going out under direct sunlight, especially between noon and 4 pm

– Visit a health center if feeling unwell.
