Jigawa State Takes Proactive Measures to Prevent Flooding

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has taken swift action to prevent flooding in the state, directing the Ministry of Environment to implement immediate measures to avert the annual menace.

According to a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Shua’aibu Rabo Ringim, the Governor gave the directives during a briefing with the Commissioner of Environment, Dr. Nura Ibrahim, and other officials.

Governor Namadi emphasized the need to protect the lives and properties of citizens, citing the devastating effects of previous floods. 

To achieve this, he directed the relocation of all necessary materials for the immediate embankment of frontline areas across the state.

A nine-member committee has been formed to engage with communities and solicit their support and cooperation in the efforts to prevent flooding. 

The Commissioner of Environment, Dr. Nura Ibrahim, revealed that officials from the ministry have already conducted an assessment visit to identify areas that require attention.

Furthermore, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Abdullahi Namadi, has established collaboration with officials from Yobe State to share expertise and resources in embankment construction along the Jigawa State corridor.

With these proactive measures, Jigawa State is taking a decisive step towards mitigating the impact of flooding and ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
