The Minister of Defence, Muhammed Badaru Abubakar, has tasked the National Defence Space Administration to embrace innovation, collaboration, and forward-thinking to tackle emerging security challenges.
This is contained in a press statement shared to Jigawa post online by the personal assistant on media and publicity to minister of defence Mati Ali, on Monday 13th May, 2024.
Speaking at the opening of a two-day symposium on Defence Space Administration in Abuja, the Minister emphasized the need for the agency to harness emerging technologies to build a more secure and prosperous future for Nigeria.
“As we face new and sophisticated threats, including cyber-attacks and space-based challenges, we must stay ahead of the curve and leverage emerging technologies to fortify our defence and ensure national security,” the Minister said.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support and enabling environment for the Armed Forces to thrive, especially in leveraging emerging technologies to safeguard defence infrastructure.
The Minister also underscored the pivotal role of emerging technologies in enhancing defence systems’ resilience and effectiveness, citing examples such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum computing, and space-based technologies.
Later, the Chief of Defence Space Administration, Air Vice Marshal AA Shinkafi, conducted the Minister around an exhibition stand showcasing innovations in satellite communication technologies produced by the organisation.
The symposium, which brings together experts in defence and space administration, aims to explore new ideas, share best practices, and forge partnerships to address emerging security challenges.
