In a bid to improve healthcare services in Miga Local Government Area (LGA), the Al-yaqeen WAQF Foundation has trained female Health Ambassadors, known as Jakadun lafiya.
The participants, carefully selected from 23 village head communities, aim to identify less privileged women who cannot afford healthcare services and link them with the foundation. This initiative seeks to reduce out-of-pocket expenses and ensure universal health coverage across the LGA.
The female Jakadun lafiya will create demand and work harmoniously with other community structures to improve access to health services.

Jigawa state has previously mobilized over 12,000 male Jakadun lafiya volunteers, but due to cultural and religious issues, they faced challenges interfacing directly with women.
To address this, the Al-yaqeen WAQF foundation has introduced female Health Ambassadors to provide sustainable solutions for Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCHA) services in Miga LGA.
One of the selected Health ambassador (Jakadun lafiya), Fatima Muhammad, expressed her understanding of the importance of health for women and children. She learned about the risks of mosquito bites during pregnancy and the benefits of antenatal care.
Fatima appreciated her selection as a Jakadun lafiya and promised to dedicate her time to enlightening and assisting women in accessing healthcare services.
Muhammad Suleiman, Chairman of Al-yaqeen WAQF foundation in Miga, explained that the objective of the training is to support health activities in the area by appointing women as Jakadun lafiya.
He acknowledged that male health ambassador (Jakadun lafiya) were previously unable to effectively reach women in their communities.
The training, sponsored by UK AID through the Lafiya programme, has equipped these women to enlighten their peers on pregnancy and related issues. Suleiman commended the programme for its efforts in ensuring the health and well-being of women in Jigawa state.”
