Jigawa state adopts gender policy aligned with islamic values and cultural norms

In a significant step towards promoting gender equality and social inclusion, the Jigawa State government has developed a gender policy that aligns with Islamic values and cultural norms.

The policy aims to empower women, promote gender justice, and create opportunities for all individuals to contribute to and benefit from the state’s socio-economic development.

The policy was reviewed and updated at a workshop held at Tahir Guest Palace in Kano, which brought together stakeholders from various sectors.

The Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza T. Abdulwahab, emphasized the need for a robust monitoring and evaluation framework to track progress, identify challenges, and make informed decisions.

The workshop was coordinated by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, with support from Expanding Social Protection for Inclusive Development (ESPID/ACF) and FCDO UK Aids.

The event provided a platform for stakeholders to refine approaches, share experiences, and explore innovative solutions to address gender-related challenges in the state.

The Jigawa Gender Policy encourages institutions in the public and private sectors to mainstream women’s issues, children’s rights, and the needs of people with special needs in their policies.
