Damaturu Emirate council assured to support fights against GBV and drug abuse.

The Emir stated this when he received stakeholders from Women for Peace and the Center for Child Care and Human Development (C3HD) on women’s inclusion and the traditional justice system.

Alhaji Dr. Shehu Hashim Ibn Al-Amin Elkanemi assured the readiness of his emirate to support the campaign for better progress and development, adding that the emirate council has since embarked on a sensitization tour to all district heads across the Emirate and down to village heads.

Represented by the District Head of Sasawa Abba Barma Shehu Hashim, the emir used the medium and called on youths to shun all forms of social vices and drug abuse for the progress and development of Damaturu emirate and the state in general.

Speaking during the walk campaign the Executive Director C3HD Mujibullah Abdu Dahiru said women are marginalized in decision-making processes hence there is a need for inclusion in both governance and the traditional justice system.

He appealed to traditional rulers and religious leaders to support the campaign to ensure sustainable peace and development.

The Executive Director further added that they were at the Emir Palace to inform the Emir of Damaturu Alhaji Dr Shehu Hashim Ibn Al-Amin Elkanemi the demand of the Center for Child Care and Human Development on Women’s Rights, gender-based violence GBV, women’s participation in decision marking among others.

In her separate remarks, the Executive Director Muslim sisters organization of Nigeria Yobe State Chapter Hajiya Magajiya Mohammed Chellumi said the advocacy represents a coalition of stakeholders who are committed to socioeconomic recovery, political participation, and women empowerment in society.

According to her, the coalition proposed inclusion systems, representation of women, capacity building, awareness campaigns, and economic empowerment of girl children among other aspects.

Hajiya Magajiya Mohammed Chellumi presented a charter of demand for consideration to the ongoing project aimed at fostering gender equality and empowerment of women in society.

Shedding more light on the significance of the campaign, the Advocacy and digital communication officer of C3HD Mr Abdullahi Baba Machina said the campaign became necessary considering the increasing cases of GBV, drugs abuse and other negative factors among girls and child in society.

Mr Abdullahi stressed the need for traditional institutions and religious leaders to educated the public on the importance of the proper upbringing of children .

He used the medium and commended the efforts of the Emir of Damaturu Alhaji Dr Shehu Hashim Ibn Al-Amin Elkanemi for giving them all the necessary support.

The peace walk campaign kick-started at the central roundabout to the palace of the Emir of Damaturu which was attended by various women’s groups, Youth, security, and media organizations among others.
