The House of Representatives Committee on Health has promised to address the challenges facing the Federal Medical Center Birnin Kudu (FMC) and Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital Dutse (RSTH).
The committee made this assurance during its oversight visit to federal government hospitals in Jigawa and other states. Committee Chairman Amos Gwamna Magaji, representing Zangon Kataf/Jaba federal constituency, commended the hospitals’ leadership for maintaining quality health services despite numerous challenges.
Magaji acknowledged the challenges, including staffing, resource allocation, electricity issues, and equipment supply, including dialysis machines for FMC Birnin Kudu.
He assured that the committee would ensure that RSTH Dutse receives adequate resources and allocations for good management and services.
The Chief Medical Director of FMC Birnin Kudu, Dr. Abdullahi Atterwamie, presented the hospital’s expansion plans, which include a new site spanning over 100 hectares.
The expansion aims to increase access to quality healthcare and improve patient care.
Dr. Atterwamie highlighted the hospital’s challenges, including inadequate dialysis machines, electricity issues, staffing, and inadequate funding. He appealed for additional support to address these challenges.
The CMD of RSTH Dutse, Dr. Muhammad Mijinyawa, also listed the hospital’s challenges, including inadequate resources, limited capacity, and political interference.

He appealed for improved resources and support to enhance healthcare services.
The committee chairman assured that they would address these challenges and work towards improving healthcare services in Jigawa State.
