The Coalition of Yobe East Progressive Youths held a press conference on July 7, 2024, in Damaturu, urging Senate President Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan to contest for the governorship of Yobe State 2027.
According to the coalition’s president, Mr. Yerima Goni, “We gather today with a shared vision to pave the way for a brighter future for Yobe State. We believe that strong and visionary leadership is essential to drive our state towards prosperity.”
The coalition expressed concern over the slow pace of development in Yobe State compared to other states in the nation, despite efforts made by previous administrations. They believe that Senator Lawan possesses the qualities of integrity, vision, and effective governance needed to lead the state towards progress.
Mr. Yerima highlighted Senator Lawan’s track record of respect and kindness, citing his relationship with Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, the current Minister of Police Affairs. He expressed confidence that Senator Lawan would receive support from prominent leaders like Governor Mai Mala Buni and Senator Ibrahim Gaidam.
The coalition envisions a Yobe State where every child has access to quality education, businesses thrive, and infrastructure supports seamless connectivity. They believe that under Senator Lawan’s leadership, the state can become a beacon of progress and opportunities for the younger generation.
The coalition urged Senator Lawan to heed the call of duty and offer himself as a candidate for governor, threatening to take legal action if he refuses. They pledged to rally behind him and mobilize support for his contest.

The coalition then called for unity in building a promising future for Yobe State, with Senator Lawan at the helm.
