The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has handed over 155,020 litres of liquid gel fertiliser to Jigawa government for distribution to farmers affected by 2018 flood disaster in the state.
Hajiya Zaubaida Umar, the Director-General (DG) of the NEMA, stated this during the handing over of the commodities in Dutse, on Wednesday.
Umar, represented by Sani Jiba, the Director Admin and Finance of the agency, said rhe liquid fertiliser was supplied as replacement of balance of NPK fertiliser approved for the state under the National Food Security Council-Emergency Agricultural Intervention (NFSC-EAI) to farmers affected by 2028 flood in the state.
“His Excellency may wish to note that NEMA had commenced distribution of NPK fertiliser to affected farmers in Jigawa state in 2020.
“However, this could not be concluded due to changes in the regulations by the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative, which led to the termination of the contract between NEMA and the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority for the supply of NPK fertiliser to beneficiaries” states,” Umar said.
According to her, sequel to the termination of the contract and based on recommendations form the Office of the National Security Adviser, the agency sought approval to substitute from Granular Power Fertiliser to Liquid Gel Fertiliser.
She added that each one litre of the liquid fertiliser is equivalent to 50kg of NPK 20-10-10 fertiliser.
“It my pleasure to confirm that that as at today, the supply of 155,020 litres of liquid gel fertiliser for Jigawa state has been completed and I’m here to formally hand over this consignment to Jigawa state government for onward distribution to the beneficiary farmers for their use in current planting season,” the DG sais.
While appreciating Gov. Umar Namadi for his efforts towards agricultural empowerment and food security in state, she requested the governors supports and the efforts of the FG by enduring timely distribution of the fertiliser to the same intended beneficiaries.
Responding, who Namadi commended the agency and federal government for gesture, assured that the items will be distributed to remaining affected farmers in Auyo, Kafinhausa and Miga local government areas.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Aminu Usman, added that the fertiliser will be handed over State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for onward distribution to the beneficiaries.
He also urged the beneficiaries to make judicious of the fertiliser in order to enhance food production and food security in their communities, state and the nation in general.
