Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has reiterated the state’s dedication to implementing the principles of Zakkat and Waqf to reduce poverty and inequality among citizens.
This commitment was made during the National Conference of Zakkat/Waqf at the College of Nurses in Hadejia.
Governor Namadi described Zakkat principles as a tool to be used by the government to reduce levels of inequalities and poverty among vulnerable citizens.
He emphasized that it’s the best way to use Islamic teachings to improve socioeconomic well-being. Notably, three emirates in Jigawa State have generated over ₦3.5 billion for proper implementation of Zakkat.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alh Saad Abubakar, expressed gratitude to Allah and thanked Governor Namadi for hosting the conference. He declared Governor Namadi as the “Leader of Zakkat for the Year” and urged others to emulate his example for the development of Islam, peace, and stability in the country.
The Sultan described Jigawa State as the “Nation’s Capital of Zakkat” and called on wealthy persons to continue giving Zakkat.
The Emir of Hadejia, Alh Dr. Adamu Abubakar Maje, thanked the Jigawa State government for sponsoring the conference. He appreciated the Sultan’s efforts in reorganizing the conference and mobilizing people on the importance of Zakkat.
The Emir charged people to remain united in supporting Islam and called on traditional rulers to mobilize their subjects on Zakkat for the less privileged.
The conference culminated in the distribution of Zakkat worth over ₦91 million in grains, livestock, and cash to the Lafia village area of Guri Local Government, recognized for collecting the highest Zakkat in the country.
