Jigawa state government has commended federal government for promoting e-governance and digital economy to fight corruption, insecurity, among others.
The senior special adviser to the state government on ICT, Dr. Habibu Aminu Kani made the commendation during the stakeholders engagement on national digital economy bill held in Dutse.
Kani said already Jigawa state aligned with the bill all the government processes are gradually been transformed and digital economy that the state already have the law and bills regarding that.

He said is a giant step that the federal ministry of communication and economy for bringing the stakeholder engagement for them to give their input on the bill. “This shows that the government is coming closer to the people”.
The SSA said the state government is training it’s civil servants including teachers on digital literacy and continue to invest heavily on the development.
Engineer Abdulkadir Muhammad an ICT stakeholder said Jigawa state is the first state in Nigeria to embrace ICT and e-givernance, saluting the federal government for providing a bill that will backed the process.
In his part, a facilatator of the program, Barr. Christopher Nwuya, a lawyer in the law firm of Duale, Oviae Alex-Adedipe, official legal consultants on the national digital economy and e-givernance bill, 2024 said many countries are ahead of Nigeria in the digital space, “that is why federal government sets to provide a law on it”.
Nwuya said only challenge face the implementation process in the whole country the financial constraints looking at the huge amount of money the project requires.
He said “this landmark legislation aims to drive economic growth, improve public service delivery and create a competitive environment for Nigeria’s digital economy”.
Barrister said the new law establishes a legal framework for electronic transactions, communications and digital signatures, granting them the same legal validity as traditional paper documents.
“It also mandates the digitalization of government services and processes, enhancing efficiency, accessibility and transparency” He stated.
He said Key provisions of the bill includes; digital Government and Infrastructur, digitalization of government services and processes, consumer Protection, Measures to protect consumers engaged in digital transactions, digital trade and tnvestment, framework for international digital trade and investments.
Stakeholders during the meeting hail the bill as a game-changer, poised to unlock Nigeria’s digital potential, foster innovation and create new opportunities.
