A tragic incident unfolded in Jigawa State on Monday, August 4, 2025, when a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, Superintendent Bashir Adamu Jibril, was brutally killed by a mob. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 pm at Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa Local Government Area, where the officer was performing his lawful duty.

According to eyewitnesses, the officer was attacked after arresting a suspected criminal, which sparked agitation among a group of hoodlums who resorted to violence to prevent justice.

The mob, armed with cutlasses, sticks, and other locally fabricated dangerous weapons, descended on the officer, inflicting grievous injuries that led to his instant and untimely death. He was quickly transported to Dutse General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The NSCDC Jigawa State Command has confirmed the incident and assured the general public and the family of the deceased that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion. The Command’s spokesperson, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, revealed that the prime suspect and mastermind of the mob attack has been apprehended, while investigations are ongoing to arrest the remaining perpetrators.

The NSCDC has launched a thorough investigation into the incident to identify and apprehend all those involved. The Command has condemned the senseless act of jungle justice meted out to the officer in the line of duty. Efforts are being made to ensure that all perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.

The late SC Bashir Adamu Jibril was known for his bravery, discipline, and unwavering commitment to national service. The NSCDC Jigawa State Command deeply regrets this painful loss and strongly condemns the senseless act of violence.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice. The NSCDC has assured the public that no effort will be spared in ensuring that all those involved in this heinous crime are brought to book.
