Yobe State govt’ approves Billions of Naira to improve primary healthcare indicators, others.

Yobe State Governor Alhaji Mai Mala Buni on Thursday, April 4th, 2024 presided over the state executive council EXCO meeting and deliberated on issues affecting the livelihood and well-being of the people of the state.

While presiding over the executive council meeting the Governor was represented by his deputy Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, the council deliberated and approved a memo from the Commissioner of Health and Human Services. Dr. Muhammad Lawan Gana on primary healthcare leadership challenges for local government councils in the state.

Briefing journalists after the state executive council EXCO meeting, the Commissioner of Home Affairs Information and Culture Alhaji Abdullahi Bego Said the council approved the establishment of three weather stations in Damaturu, Machina, and Gulani local government areas to mitigate climate and agricultural problems at the cost of one hundred and eight nine point nine million Naira.

Bego emphasized that Yobe had been experiencing climate change challenges such as dunes, dust storms, Erosion and irregular rainfall.

The commissioner further added that, the new weather stations would not only provide weather forecasts, but also contribute to the study and monitoring of climate change and its impact on the environment and Agricultural sector of Yobe state.

The Commissioner also said the council approved the sum of 1, 183, 077, 54375 as a variation on the cost earlier approved for the construction of Chumbusko to Tagali and for the dual carriageway left side which is now to be carried out through direct labor the council approved the sum of 1,521,262,537.27 for the work.

The council has also approved the sum of 917,083, 532.54 Naira as a variation payment for the construction of sixteen kilometers of Nguru _ Balanguwa road and 4, 918,560,593.82 Naira for the construction of Balanguwa _ kumaganam roads.

The Executive Council in the session also approved the sum of 225, 911,843.39 Naira for the rehabilitation and extension of Banquet Multipurpose Hall Government House Damaturu and approved another 345,217,652.50 for the provision of furniture and equipment for the newly constructed apartment Houses at the presidential lodge Damaturu.

Also speaking during the briefing, the Commissioner Ministry of Health Dr Muhammad Lawan Gana said to improve primary healthcare across the seventeen local government areas, the Local government areas’ primary healthcare leadership challenge was launched and is being operated by the UNICEF with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in collaboration with federal ministry of health and National primary healthcare development agency.

Dr Muhammad Lawan Gana also said the local government area primary healthcare leadership challenge is one of the twelve indicators for an award that could come to the state among all the thirty-six states of the federation if LGAs adhere to the specific activity indicators aimed at improving primary health care at the grassroots level.

The state executive council also approved the recommendation that monetary awards be given to the best-performing local government at the zonal level as well as at the overall state level.

It could be recalled that the state government under the leadership of Governor Buni had earlier awarded a contract for the construction of some roads across the state, which include the ten kilometers Chumbusko to Tagali road, eleven points five kilometers left side Damaturu to Kalallawa dual carriageway which was revoked earlier.

Others are sixteen kilometers from Nguru to Balanguwa Road and the thirty-kilometer Bagwa to Kumaganam Road among others.
