The Emir of Dutse, His Royal Highness Alhaji Hameem Nuhu Sanusi, has launched a special round of polio vaccine campaign aimed at reaching over 1.5 million children in Jigawa State. The Emir personally administered the vaccine to some children at his palace, assuring the public of its safety and effectiveness.

Traditional institutions will continue to promote and support initiatives that enhance the health, social, and economic well-being of the people, the Emir said. He urged parents to bring their children forward for vaccination to help sustain the progress made in polio eradication over the past thirteen years.

Dr. Sambo Shehu, Jigawa State Director of Primary Healthcare Development Agency, addressed newsmen after the campaign launch, stating that all necessary arrangements had been made for the success of the vaccination exercise. He explained that over 1.5 million children aged 0-5 years are targeted for vaccination, and over 3,000 teams comprising 15,000 ad-hoc staff have been mobilized to reach every child across the state’s 27 local government areas.

“The aim of the vaccination is to strengthen our children’s immunity against any possible resurgence of the polio virus, which we have eradicated from our state for the past thirteen years,” Dr. Sambo said. “It is a collective responsibility to keep our children and society safe from this and other deadly viruses. We call on everyone to play their expected role in achieving this goal.”
