Jigawa achieves 80% immunization coverage, vows to Reach remaining 20%

As the Africa marks Africa Immunization Week from April 24 to 30, Jigawa State has made significant strides in immunization, reaching an impressive 80% coverage rate in 2022.

However, the state acknowledges that more needs to be done to reach the remaining 20% of its population, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas.

According to Dr. Kabir Ibrahim, Permanent Secretary and Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHCDA), the state has launched a new initiative to strengthen its immunization program.

This includes deploying mobile vaccination teams and establishing additional vaccination centers to reach the remaining 20% of the population.

Dr. Ibrahim made this announcement during a press conference at the Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Agency’s conference hall in Dutse on April 30, 2024.

He highlighted the state’s impressive record of zero cases of Meningitis, Lassa fever, Polio, and other vaccine-preventable diseases.

The theme of this year’s Africa Immunization Week is “Vaccines Work: Immunization for All,” emphasizing the importance of vaccines in preventing the spread of diseases and protecting public health.

Dr. Ibrahim emphasized that vaccines are a proven and effective way to prevent the spread of diseases and save lives.

He reiterated the state’s commitment to ensuring that every citizen of Jigawa State has access to this lifesaving intervention.

As part of the Africa Immunization Week celebrations, the state will conduct a series of activities, including vaccination campaigns, community engagement, and awareness-raising events.

Dr. Ibrahim commended the state government for its efforts towards ensuring that all children are safe from killer diseases.

This achievement is a testament to the state’s dedication to improving public health and protecting its citizens from vaccine-preventable diseases.

With continued efforts, Jigawa State is on track to achieving its goal of 100% immunization coverage, ensuring a healthier and safer future for all its citizens.”
