Governor Malam Umar Namadi has flagged off the distribution of a $250,000 World Bank Loan to 10 rural farmers’ communities in Jigawa State.
The loan is part of the Argo-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, aimed at empowering rural communities and promoting sustainable agriculture.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Namadi described the World Bank intervention as a “welcome gesture” that aligns with his government’s 12-point agenda.

He emphasized the importance of empowering rural communities through their own businesses and creating an enabling environment for sustainable growth.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Nura Ibrahim, explained that the Community Revolving Funds (CRFs) loan is designed to support rural community/farmer groups in undertaking investments in climate-smart rain-fed crops.
Each eligible farmers’ group with a minimum of 10-25 beneficiaries will receive $25,000, with a target of 2,800 groups in the state.
One of the beneficiaries, Hajiya Iya Wawu from the women farmers’ group, expressed gratitude to the state governor, World Bank, and all those who contributed to the program’s success.

She promised to sustain the program and ensure its benefits reach the intended recipients.
The ACReSAL project aims to increase the adoption of sustainable landscape management practices in targeted watersheds in northern Nigeria.
The loan is expected to make a significant impact on poverty eradication, job creation, sustainable food security, and development in the state.
