Jigawa State Taskforce Committee Advocates for Upgrade of Baturiya Game Reserve to National Park

The Jigawa State Taskforce Committee on Advocacy and Sensitization has mobilized the Shiyo community in Auyo Local Government Area to support the formal handover of Baturiya Game Reserve to the federal government.

Chairman of the committee and Head of Service, Alh. Muhd K. Dagacheri, emphasized the importance of upgrading the reserve to a national park, highlighting the benefits of improved social infrastructure, including roads, healthcare, education, electricity, water supply, and agriculture.

These upgrades aim to create jobs, ensure food security, and generate revenue for socioeconomic development in rural areas.

The Commissioner of Environment, represented by Permanent Secretary Dr. Abdullahi Namadi, explained that the federal government has established a committee to identify ten key game reserves across the country for upgrade to national park status.

Baturiya Game Reserve is one of the selected reserves, and the Jigawa State government has committed to constructing roads from Kwanar Gawo to Shinge and Tage to Unik to facilitate transportation and farm produce marketing.

Muhammad Umar information officer said the Acting Chairman of Auyo Local Government, Hassan Abubakar Gada, commended the state government’s initiative and assured full support and community cooperation.

The representative of Auyo District Head, Abdullahi Isma’il, and Village Head of Unik, Muhd Zakar, expressed gratitude for the development and appealed for the provision of a primary healthcare center and river embankment to prevent flood disasters.

The upgrade of Baturiya Game Reserve to a national park is expected to bring significant benefits to the community, including improved infrastructure and socioeconomic development.
