In a bid to eradicate malaria in Jigawa State, the state government, in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) and the Global Fund Malaria Project, has commenced the 2024 Integrated ITN and SMC Campaign.
The campaign aims to distribute over 3 million Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs) to households across the state, targeting 6.8 million children between 3 and 59 months with Spaq doses. The distribution will be done in two phases: mobilization at the household level, followed by onward distribution of materials at designated points.

According to officials, the campaign will focus on rural areas where the risk of malaria is higher. Free malaria preventive medicines will be administered to eligible children from July to October 2024, in all 27 local government areas, political wards, and communities. Households will also receive free net cards, which can be redeemed for ITNs during the mass campaign.
The Jigawa State Government and malaria partners will distribute 3.2 million free ITNs to households across the 26 local government areas, 288 political wards, and 11,090 selected communities from August 9 to 13, 2024. Pregnant women will receive free ITNs during their first antenatal care visit, and fully immunized children can receive free ITNs at government health facilities.
The campaign urges residents to prevent the spread of malaria by disposing of unused tires, closing open water containers, and keeping their environment clean.
This effort demonstrates the commitment of the Jigawa State Government and its partners to eliminating malaria in the state.
