President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, launched a multi-billion naira agricultural empowerment scheme in Yobe State today.
The scheme, fully funded by the Yobe State government, aims to boost agricultural activities and improve food production sufficiency in the state.
President Tinubu emphasized the importance of agriculture in achieving food security and economic development. “Agriculture is a fundamental priority that we must pursue with vigor across all tiers of government,” he said.
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State highlighted the challenges faced by the state’s agricultural sector, including security threats, erosion, desert encroachment, and low rainfall. However, he noted that the improvement in security has made farmlands accessible, and the state has adopted strategies to revitalize the sector.

The scheme will benefit 5,340 farmers across the 178 electoral wards of the state, with each farmer receiving agricultural equipment and inputs, including tractors, fertilizer, and improved seeds.
The state government has also established livestock development centers, revived the Lava Irrigation Scheme, and established sesame seed processing factories.
Governor Buni warned beneficiaries against selling or misusing the machines, emphasizing that the government will not tolerate any act of sabotage.
He appealed to the people of Yobe State to embrace agriculture to ensure food security and economic development.
The launch of the agricultural empowerment scheme is a significant milestone in Yobe State’s efforts to revitalize its agricultural sector and improve the lives of its citizens.
