The Jigawa State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi FCA, has approved several key initiatives aimed at enhancing social protection and education in the state.
The council approved the first stage report on vulnerable groups registered in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, including 93,212 poor elderly persons, 34,994 people with disabilities, and 65,607 orphans.
The report also revealed that 1,644 disabled beneficiaries have already received a monthly Social Security Allowance of N7,000.

The council also approved the commencement of the second stage of developing a database for orphans, people with disabilities, and vulnerable aged populations.
Additionally, a law on Social Security Allowance for People with Disabilities was enacted, and social protection and welfare programs were approved for these groups, with an increased allowance from N7,000 to N10,000 and expanded beneficiaries from 150 to 200 per LGA.
Furthermore, the council approved the reviewed operational guidelines for an international program between Jigawa State Polytechnic for Information and Communication Technology and Informatics/NCC Manchester, United Kingdom, set to commence in Term-3 (T3-2024).
These initiatives demonstrate the state government’s commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of vulnerable populations and investing in education and international partnerships.
