The Malaria Consortium, in partnership with the Jigawa State Government, has finalized preparations to distribute 3.2 million Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Mosquito Nets (LLITMN) across the 27 local government areas of the state.
According to Dr. Mahmood, Director of Public Health, Jigawa State, the nets have been transported from the central store in Dutse to various stores across the LGAs.
The distribution exercise, scheduled to commence on the first week of August, will involve critical stakeholders, including adhoc staff, health workers, traditional leaders, civil societies, media, and religious groups. In addition to the mosquito nets, over 6 million doses of Seasonal Malaria Chemo-Prevention (SPAQ) for children between 6-56 months will also be distributed.
Dr. Rilwan Anka, Campaign Coordinator for the Malaria Consortium, highlighted innovations in this year’s distribution exercise, including the collection of old mosquito nets for replacement and the distribution of anti-malaria drugs. He emphasized the importance of public enlightenment and mobilization to ensure compliance and proper use of the nets.

The ultimate goal of the exercise is to provide mosquito nets, build children’s immunity against malaria, and reduce the prevalence of malaria cases, which is a leading cause of death among children and pregnant women in the state.
A breakdown of the nets delivered to various local government headquarters shows:
– Miga LGA: 126,500 units
– Birnin Kudu LGA: 227,000 units
– Jahun LGA: 194,280 units
– Kiyawa LGA: 125,150 units
– Ringim LGA: 127,300 units
– Buji LGA: 148,750 units
– Kazaure LGA: 87,750 units
– Roni LGA: 68,100 units
The distribution of Seasonal Malaria Chemo-Prevention (SPAQ) is scheduled to commence on July 24th.
