The Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has called on organizers of the proposed August 1 protest to shelve their plans and engage in dialogue with the Federal Government.
According to the Minister, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms have started yielding fruitful results, with the nation’s economy on a gradual but steady path of recovery.

He cited the economic growth in Q1 2024 as the second-fastest first-quarter growth in the last six years, and noted that the Defence strategy is improving security.
The Minister highlighted various initiatives by the President, including the creation of the Livestock Ministry, the Nigerian Student Loan Scheme, and the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund.
Badaru also mentioned the increase in funding for infrastructure, the sale of crude oil to indigenous refining companies in Naira, and the signing of the National Minimum Wage Act into Law.
The Minister emphasized that the President is committed to the safety of lives and property, and has taken bold steps to stabilize the economy.
He urged protesters to consider the positive economic turnaround and engage in dialogue instead of causing mayhem.
