The Jigawa State Government has announced its opposition to the planned nationwide protest, citing measures taken by the Federal and State Governments to alleviate the negative impact of certain policies on Nigerians.

The decision was made during a State Executive Council meeting held on July 30th, 2024, chaired by the Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar A. Namadi FCA.

According to a statement released by the Commissioner of information, Youth, sport, and Culture, Sagir Musa Ahmad, the government has appreciated the efforts of various stakeholders in the state, including religious leaders, traditional leaders, students, trade unions, and civil society organizations, for their support in maintaining peace and stability in the state.

The Council also approved several other key decisions, including the upward review of the Bursary Allowance for students, the implementation of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) programme, and the procurement of relief materials worth over N200 million for emergency preparedness.

The government’s stance on the protest has been welcomed by many residents who are concerned about the potential disruption to their lives.

“We appreciate the government’s efforts to maintain peace and stability in the state,” said Aisha Mohammed, a local resident. “We don’t want any trouble here.”

The Jigawa State Government’s decision is seen as a move to prioritize the welfare and safety of its citizens, while also acknowledging the efforts being made to address the concerns of Nigerians.
