Yobe govt’ warns against collection of abandoned metal objects

The Office of the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Yobe State Governor, Alhaji Mai Buni, has issued a warning to the public, particularly metal scavengers, against collecting and moving scraps and other abandoned metal objects into the state.

According to a statement by Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Retired), Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, the warning follows an incident where five metal scavengers were injured by an abandoned unexploded ordnance they picked up while crossing from the deserted parts of Sambisa Forest to Goniri area.

The statement advised the public to report any suspicious objects or movements of persons in their communities, as the military Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit works to dispose of possible abandoned devices.

The government’s warning aims to prevent further accidents and ensure public safety in the state.
