Daily Trust-MacArthur Foundations Train Broadcasting Journalists in Sokoto

The Daily Trust Foundation, in partnership with the MacArthur Foundation, have designed a three-day training program for broadcasting journalists on investigative reporting and data journalism.

Helds at Giginya Hotel, Sokoto, from October 14 to 16, 2024, the workshop drew participants from various broadcasting stations across seven states: Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto,  Kebbi and Kaduna.

Malam Mannir Dan Ali, former CEO and Editor-in-Chief of Daily Trust Newspaper, urged journalists to enhance their skills by incorporating investigative storytelling into their work. He highlighted Daily Trust Foundation’s commitment to allocating 2.5% of its annual income to train journalists and support social causes.

Dan Ali emphasized the need for media professionals to refocus on human-angle stories, fostering trust between the press and the public.

Sokoto State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Bello Sambo Danchadi, praised Daily Trust and the foundation for their impactful storytelling, dubbing them “the voice of the voiceless.”

Jigawa post report that the training aimed to equip broadcasting journalists with essential skills in investigative reporting and data journalism, enhancing the quality of storytelling in the region.
